Guide to London

North London

There are some beautiful, very expensive and exclusive areas to the north of West London. Houses range from elegant Georgian homes and Victorian mansion blocks to neat mews houses and Edwardian properties. Transport links are very good.

Just to the east Camden (NW1) and Kentish Town (N7) are very popular with young people and are therefore lively places, particularly at the weekend, when the excellent and extensive market gets under way.  Houses tend to be of modest proportions; Camden was never a rich area.  The most sought after parts of Camden include Camden Square where quality houses overlook the green square.  Shopping and entertainment are good, with clubs, cafes and restaurants and a beautiful art-deco cinema.  Tube and bus links are also good.  Camden is beside Camden Lock, a popular area which attracts many visitors enjoying a wander alongside the canal - a pleasant change from much of London.

To the east of Camden Town Islington (N1) is extremely fashionable and prices here have risen rapidly in the past couple of years. The area is largely Victorian, but has many beautiful Georgian streets and squares and some elegant Regency properties.  This is a large residential area full of contrasts. The area round The Angel tube station is very busy with good shops and lots of traffic. Close by are City University, Sadler’s Wells theatre and the famous antiques market at Camden Passage. The variety of restaurants on Upper Street and the many small cabaret clubs means that night life is bustling and the area generally has a vibrant atmosphere. Streets running behind the Angel tube station near the Grand Union Canal are popular residential locations.  Roads such as Duncan Terrace and Quick Street are a couple of names worth noting. There are several new executive developments and apartment conversions in old buildings which are worth considering for their convenient location, as at Wenlock Works and in a converted warehouse on Baron Street. The Terrazza is a recent development of contemporary three bedroom townhouses, other  townhouses can be found at Valentina Mews and ICE is a new mixed development of apartments, houses and duplexes.
